*blows the dust off this thing*

Oh, it still works! Hello!

I know it’s been a few weeks since I last updated this thing, back in …

SWEET JESUS has it really been almost NINE years?

Well, better late than never. With the continuing enshittification of the web and corporate social media especially, I decided it would be a good idea to finally update my trusty old website again.

You know, get back to using media that I mostly control myself.

I have so much more to share! And will in due time! But in the meantime, I hope you enjoy the new look of daveography.ca – especially now that it should be mobile-friendly!

If you want to be notified of new updates, you have some new options! RSS still works, but now you can also follow this blog in the fediverse at @dave@daveography.ca and/or sign up for emailed updates using the form at the bottom of the site.

If you have any issues with the site or find any weirdness, please let me know – site@daveography.ca.

Stay tuned!

@Dave Congratulations on the re-boot. I don’t know how much the website changed from 2016 version, but it’s clean & classy now.

It looks like ActivityPub integration works fine; I was able to copy & paste the post URL and open it in Mastodon to boost & reply. I trust the next post will just show up in my feed.

So I guess the remaining question is whether you’re able to see & respond to this comment? Maybe I better tag in @Daveography just in case…

Thanks! Looks like it's working, I can see your repost and comment.

It doesn't show up quite how I expected, though – it appears as a comment on the post, so I can't actually reply without enabling comments (which I don't want).

Not much I can do about that without a lot of work I think, so it'll just have to do for now.

Thanks again for helping me test!

@Dave Reminds me of how I still self-host my blog because @breun convinced me to not go for some blogging platform. He has been proven quite right.

What software did you build this with? How easy is the ActivityPub integration and what's the added value compared to just posting links to the blog on my Mastodon profile?

      @reinierl @Dave

It's WordPress with the ActivityPub plugin.

Not a huge advantage other than having the option to keep my profiles separate, and automating pushes to the fedi when I post new content.
